Chicha, which is named after a corn-based liquor favored by the Incas, quickly spread to Lima. It became the music of choice of the mostly indigenous new migrant population – mixing even further with rock, Andean folklore and Peruvian creole music.
- Mister Joe & Friends play rousing originals and Dixieland Jazz, kicking off the August First Tuesday at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 8 p.m. The tempo changes at 9 p.m as Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton plays the romantic, and dance-able, Gypsy Jazz ala Django Reinhardt.

The band specializes in acoustically-oriented Early Jazz – namely anything Django would’ve played – and anything that is FUN music! The band is even often followed around by the “NSHK dancers” – yet another “loose collective”…
OK, gang – Cole Porter summed it up with this number from “Kiss Me Kate” …
