International Jazz styles flavor Denton’s Tuesday Night Jazz with Peruvian Psychedelic Cumbia at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m.; and New Orleans-style Dixieland

• Los Patos Poderosos (The Mighty Ducks) play fun, Chica (or Chicha) music on the patio stage, Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton, 7-9 p.m. Free.

Chicha, which is named after a corn-based liquor favored by the Incas, quickly spread to Lima. It became the music of choice of the mostly indigenous new migrant population – mixing even further with rock, Andean folklore and Peruvian creole music.

• Mister Joe & Friends play rousing originals and Dixieland Jazz, kicking off the August First Tuesday at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 8 p.m. The tempo changes at 9 p.m as Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton plays the romantic, and dance-able, Gypsy Jazz ala Django Reinhardt.

Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton playing Gypsy Jazz at Banter Bistro during First Tuesday.

Founded in 2004 by clarinetist Andy Cooper, as a “loose collective of musicians wanting to preserve, protect, and defend the right to play Django Reinhardt style music together”, it has become its own popular entity, entertaining hundreds of Dentonites ever since!

Health issues have made Andy take a leave of absence – but he recently returned, sitting in his chair for a few songs.

Core musicians of Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton include: Thad Bonduris – guitar/vocals & ad hoc leadership; Leon Peek – guitar; Maristella Feustle – guitar; Jeffrey Barnes – woodwinds; Ginny Mac – Accordion/vocals; Carlo Canlas – violin; Jacob Appelt – double bass; Steven Prouty – drums.

The band specializes in acoustically-oriented Early Jazz – namely anything Django would’ve played – and anything that is FUN music! The band is even often followed around by the “NSHK dancers” – yet another “loose collective”…
