Denton Out-of-Bounds, and yes, Jazz
By Kathy Edwards McFarland
A little something from Snarky Puppy to brighten you day –
But first, Out-of-Bounds.
Denton people – great, laid-back, well-educated, caring and falling into the pit of bad-grammar despair … really bad grammar, thanks to laziness, auto-spell correction on smart (?) phones and – nationally televised commercials, such as …
Oh, come on, you did catch it, didn’t you? (Conjugate the verb “depreciate” for a single car … add an “s”.)
And now, Denton music and festivals …
Day of the Dead Festival wraps this evening – but Cirque du Horror has a 10 pm show tonight, Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, a Sunday matinée at 5-6:30 pm – and a final show Halloween 5-6:30 pm. (Bwah-ha-ha.) Spooky stuff, boys and girls. Visit here for tickets and details … http://www.cirqueduhorror.com/
FYI – this weekend offers numerous opportunities to celebrate dance, eat and and imbibe:
- 7 pm – Audacity Brewhouse celebrates their first year at Harvest House, 331 E. Hickory. Many beers to try from the brew house list, such as Sunset Lager, Repercussion, Bullet Proof, Nemesis, Black Widow, Chai Lager, Oaktopia, Biere de Garde, and Lil’ D #1 Mesquite Chili (oh boy, this is good).
Tasting card of 6 beers for $10. Eric McFadden on stage at 9 pm! Pan Ector Industries on site with mobile screen printing!
Eric Byron McFadden is an American guitarist, vocalist and songwriter from San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Reviews note McFadden’s guitar virtuosity, distinctly melodic songwriting and “rich, deep” vocal tone. His recordings and performances are cross-genre.
- Monday, Oct. 26 – Singer/songwriter Lauren Kinhan performs, 8 pm in the University of North Texas Kenton Hall.
Kinhan, known to many for her long tenure as vocalist/composer with the inimitable New York Voices, will perform the recital as part of her 2-day residency working with UNT Jazz voice students.
- Wednesday, Oct. 28 – Daniel Matthews presents his Masters Trumpet recital, UNT Kenton Hall, 8 pm, featuring works by Dizzie Gillespy, Miles Davis and Chick Corea. Band line-up: Daniel Matthews– trumpet + flugelhorn; Garrett Wingfield– tenor saxophone; Jake
Jb Macary– trombone; Sergio Pamies Rodriguez– piano; Mike Luzecky– bass; and John Sturino– drums
Denton offers a lot of great music – Jazz and other genres. Be on the look out – be nice to your waitstaff and please remember, only you can contribute to the care and feeding of performing artists.
