Tuesday begins Live Jazz week

Monday is a very good night for Denton Live Jazz, no doubt. I attempt to get the Monday music schedule out for you, but sources send content on Tuesdays. Little excuse for dissing the Boxcar Bandits at Mulberry St. Cantina, 110 W Mulberry St; or Late Night Jazz at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, 10 p.m. to Midnight, every Monday. Apologies, dear Readers for the slight.

As dawn (um, Noon) breaks today, Tuesday, I present the Rest of the Week Ahead (Part1).

Tonight, Tuesday, November 18:

  • Marshall Smith’s Brazz, the all-acoustic, all-brass quintet plays the patio stage at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m. The Brazzupdatedrich, harmonies of Brazz take turn this week with newly added Thelonius Monk works, and jazz standards from Brubeck, Parker and Porter. The “original five” members of the all-brass quintet are Marshall Smith and Jordan Gheen, trumpet; Catherine Gilstrap playing French horn, Paul Burk on trombone and AG Robeson on bass trombone and tuba
  • The Legion, fronted by saxophonist Spenser Liszt, offers another fantastic night of Jazz Gone Wild at Rasoi – The Indian Kitchen, 1002 Ave C (in the shadow of University of North Texas). Tonight The Legion presents – The Wes Case Scenario and PeepSigns, 6:30 p.m. $5 – cover.
  • UNT’s Jazz Repertory Ensemble, directed by Chris McGuire in Kenton Hall at 8 p.m. – FREE Saxophones: Kyle Bellaire, Cody Winton, Nils Mossblad, Josh Trent, Jeremy Langthorn; Trumpet: Max Levowitz; Rhythm Section: Ben McDonald (piano), Junho Song (guitar); Trey Anderson (bass), Mitch Polan (drumset); and Vocals: Marion Powers present a repertoire of juicy Jazz from Parker (arr. Flory) – Yardbird Suite to Young/Basie (arr. Holman) – Taxi War Dance. FMI:

Wednesday, November 19:

  • Jeffry Eckels presents “Jazz at The Whitehouse – A Vocal Showcase,” corner of Bryan and Scripture, Wednesday from 8-10:30 p.m.,

    featuring the amazing vocal talents of Rosana Eckert! Rosana is a world-class singer and composer who delivers a song with heart, soul and acumen. This week she’s featuring her song writing class from the great University of North Texas. This was a huge hit last year, so get there early.  You won’t want to miss it!

  • UNT’s Wednesday Night Jazz: Nine and Eight O’Clock Lab Bands at Gateway Center. Nine O’Clock Lab Band – Daniel Matthews, director Eight O’Clock Lab Band – Patrick Carr, director. $4 admission at the door.






Tuesday, November 25:

  • A Taste of Herb, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass tribute band, plays the patio stage at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m.

“A Taste of Herb” is the world’s premier Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass tribute band. ATOH is dedicated to reviving the sounds and feel of theATasteofHerblogo once popular style of music. In the 1960s, the music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass could be heard on the top radio shows of the time, as well as television and the big screen. The music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass is quirky, retro, hip, sometimes cheesy, but always groovy!
