Friday, onward – Jazz in Denton

Starting off Friday may be a challenge for Dentonites, and businesses having experienced the wild weather – wind, hail, rain, etc. – Thursday afternoon and evening. (Close quarters in the walk-in closet with my husband and two cats until the sirens ceased.) But resilient as ever, scheduled Denton Live Jazz music will proceed, accordingly.
Friday, April 4:
- Mariachi Quetzal performs at La Milpa Mexican Restaurant, 820 S. I-35E, at 8 p.m. – no cover
- Mother Falcon + Leoncarlo + China Ski at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, at 9 p.m. – $12/15
First Friday Music: First Friday Denton was established to promote art and business in Downtown, Denton, Texas. It is the longest running regularly scheduled retail event in Denton. FMI: http://firstfridaydenton.com/
- Local Singer-Songwriters Richard Gilbert and Ellie Meyer will perform original songs at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., 6 p.m. in a song swap. Live Local Jazz follows at 7 p.m., and Son Slim’s Gems at 8 p.m. – ALL FREE
(Son Slim is a Dallas-based blues performer taking major influence from his father, blues legend Texas Slim.)

Oui Bis is a band that provides popular music reflecting the populous, focusing on nostalgic styles from American culture, from modern days reaching back as far as the Civil War.
The variety of musical styles that America calls its own was first brought to our land by immigrants coming from Europe and the East, from Africa and South America.

Nova is the new music ensemble of the University of North Texas. Nova’s mission is to provide students and audiences with an engaging diversity of musical, aesthetic, and cultural experiences. Repertoire includes classics of the modern era alongside music by younger and less familiar composers. Nova provides students with the opportunity to perform fresh and exciting contemporary works.
