December: Sweetwater offers well-seasoned Jazz
It’s December 2, and though the warm, fall day belies coming frigid weather by Thursday, Sweetwater Grill &
Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton, has scheduled fun Jazz and warm goodies for your holiday pleasure. FYI: All performances begin at 7 p.m., unless otherwise indicated … no back to the month-long holiday merriment.
Also, please remember: It’s COLD outside! If you know people in need, Sweetwater is having a coat giveaway. There are racks of coats on the patio today; people can come choose what they need. If you have coats to donate, we’ll take those too! We’ll be doing this until Christmas Day. Please spread the word, so we can get these coats to the people who need to stay warm today!
Tuesday, December 3 – Mi Son, Mi Son, Mi Son
Mi Son, Mi Son, Mi Son is a band from Denton,TX that pays homage to the beauty and soul of Cuban Son and traditional Cuban music. The group’s instrumentation consists of 3 percussionists, bass, tres (three-string guitar-like instrument), trombone and vocals.
Sunday, December 8 – Foo McBubba, the Big Band of First United Methodist Church – Denton. In its 5th year, this is one righteous group
of Jazz musicians (21 members strong).
Tuesday, December 10 – Long-standing House Band, Sweetwater Jazz Quartet, featuring Neil Slater, Jim Riggs, Ron Fink and Lou Carfa offer up well-crafted Jazz.
Wednesday, December 11 – Mario Cruz & Friends Special Holiday Show. Mario (Jazz Saxophone Master always brings his A-game Jazz. This time with a sleigh full of holiday cheer.)
Friday, December 13 – Boxcar Bandits, downbeat 9 p.m.
Monday, December 16 – Brazz Christmas Show. This all-brass, all-acoustic quintet, led by Marshall Smith, plays stunning, resonant Christmas favorites.
Tuesday, December 17 – A Taste of Herb – Premiere Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Tribute Band are: John Wier – Trumpet & Flugelhorn, Danny O’Brien – Trumpet & Flugelhorn, Robert Hokamp – Guitar, Ross Schodek – Bass, Paul Slavens – Keyboard, Tex Bosley – Drums.
Saturday, December 21 – Special 1 p.m. show with Miss Polly & Her Tiny Big Band
