Denton Jazz: The days ahead

The University of North Texas College of Music has kicked in the after-burners with multiple concerts and performances daily. Those wanting a variety of music genres and shows will be stymied by the choices – along with the UNT music, the line-up includes Naked Lunch – A Steely Dan Tribute; a return of Caravan of Thieves; the wonderful Herb Alpert Tribute troupe, A Taste of Herb, and the ever-popular Polka band Ron and the Finkelsteiners.
Sunday, November 10: TONIGHT
- Los Patos Ponderosos, the Chicha (Peruvian Psychelic Jazz) band for dancing and listening pleasure at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m. –

- Bone Doggie’s Open Mic at the Abbey Underground, 101 Walnut St., 9 p.m. – FREE
Monday, November 11: Veteran’s Day
- UNT Brass Band performs in Winspear Hall at 7:30 p.m. – $10/8. UNT Zebras (contemporary keyboard ensemble) performs in Kenton Hall at 8 p.m. – FREE
- Paul Slavens & Friends perform at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 10 p.m. – FREE
- Late Night Jazz at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, Denton, showcases Pete Wiese and band, 10 p.m.-12 a.m. *Take Note: The Greenhouse Restaurant is closed today until Late Night Jazz.
Tuesday, November 12:
- Fred Hamilton (guitar) and Ed Soph (drumset), UNT Faculty, perform in Kenton Hall at 8 p.m. – FREE. UNT Nova Ensemble performs in Voertman Hall at 8
p.m. – FREE. University Singers perform in Winspear Hall at 8 p.m. – $8/10
- A Taste of Herb, the Sounds of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, play their tight, fun tribute selections at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 5 p.m. – FREE
- Sweetwater Jazz Quartet – Jim Riggs, saxophone; Neil Slater, keyboard; Lou Carfa, bass; and Drum-Meister Ron Fink, brings Jazz classics to the patio stage, Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m. – FREE
Thursday, Nov. 14:
- Jazz Trumpeter Jordan Gheen and Friends play Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., 6 p.m., followed by Open Mic Night at 8 p.m.
