Denton does Halloween celebrations

… with fun, costume contests and great live music.

Thursday, Oct. 31:

• Halloween Party and Costume Contest at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., with live  Beatles music by , well, the Savage Beatles, 9:30 p.m. – Midnight.

The Savage Beatles: Our first show with new bass player Chad Huffman! We’re gonna stomp! Mach Schau!! Halloween night like, a Thursday y’all. The Savage Beatles are a screamin’ good time. Heavy hitting beats to move your feets. Concentrating on the Rock’n’Roll sounds of the early Beatles. We do not pretend to be the Beatles, but are more of a fun, stomp, jump, and shout experience. We’ve got the Instruments but no wigs and suits please. We’re more of a Hamburg-era type group. Less Hits – More Punches!

• Special Halloween Show at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., 8 p.m. (No Open Mic tonight.)
• Babar + The Demigs + Savage and the Big Beat + Danny Rush and the DDs, Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 9 p.m. $5 cover.
• Annual Halloween Party with Bone Doggie and the Hickory Street Hellraisers, The Abbey Underground, 101 W. Walnut St., 9:30 p.m. with the official release of their new EP “Kitchen Prose and Gutter Rhymes.” Introducing: Poppy Xander, and featuring Tippsy Cupps and the Pumpkin Patch Review Burlesque, with special guests Molotov Dogs.

North Texas Football vs. Rice | Apogee Stadium | 6:30PM
Alright, we’ve become pretty big fans of going to football games this year. Thanks to a better than decent team, a good coach and an incredible marching band, home games are now something we really look forward to. Right now we’ve got to win one more game to #Hit6 which means we get considered for an actual Bowl game. So get your Eagle Talon ready, wear green, black or a costume and let’s keep our 3-0 at home record by whipping Rice in this Thursday’s battle of the birds. GO MEAN GREEN!
Editor’s Note: OK, Mean Green Football in a Denton Jazz Chronicles post? I have to give a sentimental nod to the Rice Owls gridders and their Marching Owl Band (aka The MOB). My dad was a drum major for the Rice Band, and always stood by the Blue and Gray. Though I want the UNT Eagles to win, my heart pulls in the direction of that little ol’ Houston institution of higher learning.
