Denton Jazz and other wild happenings

Lots of spooky goings-on around Denton‘s environs, as Halloween and Days of the Dead approach.
Wednesday, Oct. 23:
Numerous Jazz events occur in the University of North Texas College of Music, such as Guest Jazz Artist Eddie Gomez (well-know upright bass artist) joined by
Seamus Blake, Stefan Karlsson and Ed Soph, performing in the UNT Recital Hall, 8 p.m.($5). At the same time tonight, the UNT Trombone Consortium plays in Voertman Hall ($5).
Also tonight … All four vocal jazz groups – UNT Jazz Singers, Avenue C, Third Street and West End – will perform for the first time this year, Gateway Center on the 9 – 10:30 p.m. (followed by guitar ensembles), $4 cover. See you there!
- One of the perks having such a dynamic, world-renowned university music department is faculty, students and guest artists spill into the community for performances in local live music venues – Thursday, Oct. 25, Eddie Gomez, visiting Jazz Artist, backed by Seamus Blake, Stefan Karlsson and Ed Soph, plays at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 9 p.m. Tickets: $15.
- Another great UNT Jazz Guest Artist, drummer Ralph Petersen, performs Friday, Oct. 25, in Kenton Hall at 8 p.m. (Free)
- On Saturday at 8 p.m., Guest Jazz Group the Hal Griper Trio performs in Kenton Hall.

- Mariachi Queztal plays for your dining pleasure at La Milpa Mexican Restaurant, 820 S. I-35E, 8 p.m. – Free

Saturday, Oct. 26:
- Denton Community Chorus presents its fall concert, Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2121 East University Drive, 5 p.m. – FREE

- Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival, is free family festival on Hickory and Industrial streets -11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

- Join the Late Night Jazz crowd for Bassman Mike Luzecky and Friends at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, 10 p.m.- 12 a.m.
- Paul Slavens & Friends create the songs inspired by suggestions from the crowd (the more you tip, the more likely your suggestion sees the light of day) – very fun – Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 10 p.m. – Free.
Tuesday, Oct. 29:
- A Taste of Herb, the premier Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass tribute band, plays the patio stage at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., 7-9 p.m. Free
- Guest Artist, Flautist Paige Long is featured in the 20th Annual Monster Flute Choir Concert, Texas Woman’s University Morgan Jones Performance Hall, 7:30 p.m. Free
- Riggs/Slater/Seaton Jazz Experience, Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 5:30 p.m. Free, followed by DentonRadio.com Night, 8 p.m. Free.
