Jazz Tonight: Cinco de Mayo cumbia-chicka takes center stage

TONIGHT – Tuesday, April 30: 

  • Los Patos Ponderosos plays cumbia and Peruvian chicka music at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton,  from 7-9 p.m – FREE

  • Maniacal 4 (trombone quartet) presents five original pieces by Joseph Pinson, aka “Mister Joe,” in Texas Woman’s University Margo Jones Performance Hall, Oakland Avenue near Sawyer on the TWU campus, at 7:30 pm – FREE

Wednesday, May 1: 

  • Riggs/Slater Jazz Experience at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, Denton, at 5:30 pm – FREE; followed by Mount Moriah + Telekinesis + Pageantry at 9:00 pm – $10/13

Thursday, May 2: 

  • UNT Trombone Choirs Spring Showcase in Room 262 of the Music Building at 6:30 p.m. – FREE
  • AccordianMister Joe’s students from TWU perform – beginning with 11 accordions – at Banter Bistro, 219 W Oak St.,  Denton, at 6 p.m. – followed by Open Mic at 8 p.m. – BOTH FREE
  • Denton Community Band performs a joint concert with the Krum Wind Ensembles at the Krum High School Auditorium, 7 p.m. – FREE


Friday, May 3: 

  • Alex Blair & Austin Byrd (jazz) at Banter Bistro, 219 W Oak St.,  Denton, at 6 p.m. – followed by Wise Ruby at 8 p.m. and The Poor Kings at 10 p.m. – ALL FREE
  • Ron and the Finkelsteiners at Gerhard’s German Restaurant, 222 W. Hickory St., Denton, at from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – no cover

Saturday, May 4:
