Vintage Jazz Society meets at Center for Visual Arts, 400 East Hickory Street  Denton, TX – 9:30 a.m. for discussion, followed by jam session at 10:30 a.m. – everyone is welcome

We at VJS, join up with Jimmy and Karen Meredith … they’ll cook up the crawdads, we will cook up the sounds!
Vintage Jazz Society will perform 3 sets,  one set each from: (Captain Dave’s) Strictly Dixie, VJS Band and a mixed group – Open Jam … musicians, BRING YOUR HORN!

MISSION: The preservation promulgation, and dissemination of early jazz.
SCOPE, STYLE, CONTENT: early parlor, ragtime,early New Orleans, 1920s Chicago, vaudeville pit band; main focus from 1900-1930, but also includes second-line dixieland, swing early rhythm and blues.
OUTLOOK: Educational historical, authentic, and entertaining.
METHOD AND FORMAT: Historical research, lecture, seminar, media presentations, and musical demonstrations.
MATERIAL: Charts, fake books, period music books, CDs, Power Point, handouts, and other resources.
ACTIVITIES & MEMBER PERFORMANCES: Field trips to music libraries, jazz museums, etc. Annual Fat Tuesday tri-band performance and Extravaganza at Denton’s Sweetwater Tavern.
