A musical treasure trove is offered this week in Denton as we continue our celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month.
April 17: Live Jazz options cause a sweet dilemma –
- The Lynn Seaton Trio plays on the patio at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm, Denton, 7-9 p.m. – and – Jazz
Studies Guest Lecturer Steve Turre with jazz studies faculty and students, gives a free concert, 9-10:30 p.m., at the Syndicate in the University of North Texas University Union. (Possibly you can make both gigs if you drive quickly -but safely.)
April 18: Busy day on the UNT campus, with Guitarist Tim Miller, an alumnus of the Jazz Studies program brings insights to students and a free concert.
- At 5 p.m. Miller will offer a master class entitled “Arpeggio Architecture,” followed by an open clinic at 6 p.m., in room 262 of the music building. Admission to each event is $5 for those who are not members of the UNT Guitar Association.
- At 9:30 p.m. he will present a free concert in Kenton Hall (room 282).
April 19:
- Thursday Noon Concert Series @ UNT Union One O’Clock Lounge featuring Zebras, Directed By Austin Byrd.
- UNT on the Square, 109 N. Elm St., Denton, UNT Mariachi Águilas, 7-8 p.m., followed by The Phi Mu Alpha Das Oom-pahs (German influenced Polka band).
- The Blue Hit, http://www.thebluehit.com/node/1, with Drew Phillips, Brenna Manzare play at Dan’s SilverLeaf, 103 Industrial Street, Denton, 9 p.m. – Tickets: $8.
April 20:
- Brian Clancy Quartet plays Jazz at Banter Bistro of Denton, 219 W Oak Denton, 8-9:45 p.m.
April 21:
- Bone Doggieinvades Banter Bistro of Denton, 219 W Oak, 8-11:45 p.m.
- Cafe du Luxe, 3101 Unicorn Lake Blvd., Denton, offers live music (often Jazz perfomers) from 8-10 p.m.
- One O’Clock Lab Band performs with Wayne Bergeron and Denis DiBlasio in Allen, TX – The One O’Clock will be at the spectacular new Performing Arts Center in Allen, Texas, this Saturday. The first set will consist of new material for Lab 2012 as well as One O’Clock classics. The second set will be an exciting tribute to Maynard Ferguson featuring the One O’Clock with Denis DiBlasio and Wayne Bergeron. For ticket information: www.allenisd.org/pac

- Late night Jazz at The Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, Denton, from 10 p.m. – Midnight.
