April Jazz scheduled at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton,  offers a variety of dynamic musical styles.

  • Sunday, April 1: Daybreak ExpressDave Zoller has another band ready to impress, playing Zoller’s arrangements of  the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Daybreak Express is Shelley Carrol – Sax, flute, vocals; Tony Baker – Trombone; Jack Evans – Trumpet and Flugelhorn; Jonathan Fisher – Bass; Alan Green – Drums and Dave Zoller – Piano. (This is correction on previous posts describing the band as bluegrass. Apologies.)

    Tuesday, April 3: Michael Palma Quintet –  Amazing, original jazz from Palma’s group featuring: Jay Jennings-Trumpet; Melissa Aldana-sax; Michael Palma-Piano; Lyles West, Will Slater, Greg Chaplin– Bass; Denis Durick, Mark Whitfield Jr. on Drums

  • Tuesday, April 10: Sweetwater Jazz Quartet – featuring Neil Slater, Jim Riggs, Ron Fink and Lou Carfa. Enjoy  Jazz standards from this tight-knit quartet – now in it’s 4th year.
  • Thursday, April 12: UNT 2 O’Clock Lab Band – directed by Jay Saunders. Spot-on Jazz by some of UNT’s best. Click to listen:
  • Sunday, April 15: Basie Big Band – one of Denton’s best kept secrets. The Big Band is comprised of 20+ University of North Texas Jazz students and faculty get in the groove with the Swing sound of yesteryear.
