Battle of the “35” music fests

February 28, 2012

The recent announcement by a consortium of bands and musicians – 35 des Refuses (!/events/325365060849431/) – not invited to participate in the upcoming 35 Denton Music Festival (, sparked a thought of the “Clash of Music Fest Titans” on the historic Denton County Courthouse Square.

(Guitars, saxophones, keyboards, etc. raised to smite foes of performance inclusion … )

Four days of pay-by-day “conferette” music at multiple on-the-square venues, and the free one-day-long “others” music fest at A Creative Art Studio, 227 W. Oak Street, Denton, will no-doubt overwhelm listeners, musicians and local businesses. (Parking? Forget about it.)

In fact, the 35 Denton Music Festival, still in its infancy, struggles annually with event name, organizational and event-planning growing pains. Downtown eateries and bars are guaranteed an up-tick in revenue for the monster-music extended weekend – March 8-11, 2012. But will the conferette organizers see an improvement in participation by listeners and music fans?

Whether you plan to enjoy the four-day moveable music feast of the 35MF or the stay-all-day 35DR, you have plenty to hear and experience.
